YMCA camp cabin,Scottish-Irish Festival, Sept 10 2010

Hi all, I'm quite thoroughly crocked, from Al's wine to the Tawny port that Rob got earlier, to the coconut rum and orange juice that I'm drinking now. No whirlies yet but I'm working on it. Apparently I'm quite the riot when crocked! We arrived at the YMCA cabin about 2:30 or so today, and as happens every year, we were blown away by the luxury of our living facilities! Chance always does the room reservation here at the YMCA, and here year the room he gets us is a little nicer than the one the year before.

The first year we came up, it was the four of us (Rob, Chance, myself and Gene) in this little cabin at the Y consisting of two bunk beds, a closet and a bathroom. We were up half the night talking politics with Gene, and the walls were paper thin... The cheese d$&ck in the cabin next to us even wrote us a little note the next morning basically telling us that we were too loud. And all this was after Gene had us chasing after this boneheaded bimbo half the evening.

The following year were stayed at the same type of rook at the Y, except it was in a dorm-type building. The Y building wad like 4 or 5 stories high, and it was a good room, better than the previous year. But...again, Gene had us chasing after ANOTHER chickie, this time the girlfriend of a football buddy of his. She was pretty cool, but once again the net result was all of us running around Estes chasing after a female, just because one of us was a horndog.

Then last year, we chose to go up to the Scottish-Irish festival without Gene, and the result was a 100% improvement in the experience. Completely skeezer-free, and in an actual can in! I mean this place was BEAUTIFUL, 2 rooms and a full kitchen! We were blown away.

At least until THiS year. I'm sitting on a couch in the living room of the cabin we have this year. Bigger kitchen, 2 bedrooms but three beds (well 4 if you count the bunk bed in one of the rooms), our own cabin's wireless network, tons of room, and an actual balcony. Absolutely spectacular!

Thoughts from the lounge chair August 31 2010

This is my first blog from the new iPad! I'm outside on the balcony on a lounge chair where I always am when I write these things. It took a couple of tries to get the Blogger.com page to work with the iPad; I wasn't able to type anywhere in the main body at first. I still technically can't, but I found that if I go into "edit HTML" mode on the page (where you enter the text along with any HTML formatting you want to use), it works fine. Go figure.

Meantime I have a solid wireless connection out here, even though I'm outside and 2 stories above the wireless router. Plus I have no cords, mice, mouse pads, coolpads or anything else to worry about, and I don't even need any light! It's 9:10 PM, the train just went by, and although it's August, it will be to cool to comfortably be out heed this late before you know it. The only thing I have to deal with out here at the moment though is a kitty who meows incessantly until I let her out.

I've been working late the past three weeks...just the time of year and all...and I stayed late at a school tonight for the 2010 Fall STR Kickoff meeting. Got home about 7:30 to find that Cynthia and Kevin ordered Dominoes, always nummy! I'm bushed though, been a week already and it's only Tuesday. Meredith and Al are coming on Friday for labor day weekend, and then flying out to Arkansas to visit Grace Michelle at the cabin. So it'll be a company weekend, and then next weekend I'll be at Estes Park, which is probably where my next blog post will come from in fact.

Cynthia is doing OK, had the day off today but worked too hard IMHO! Kevin has a job now, at King Soopers here in town. Money, manual labor, and social skills...all the benefits of high school without the bull$@!t. He's still going to online high school, and he wants to go to UCCS for college. Really a great kid overall, we got off pretty light with him. With my luck, I always figured any son or stepson of mine would be just the opposite of me, but Kev shares all kinds of traits with both Cynthia and I. He'll be every bit as successful as he wants to be.

Wow, I'm finding that typing on this iPad is actually a lot better than typing on a real keyboard! I can be almost as fast as on a real keyboard, and the iPad auto-corrects as I type so I don't have to worry about backspacing and correcting mistakes. I got the iPad last Wednesday at Cherry Creek mall; place was HOPPIN' even at 5:30PM. There were probably 20 or 25 blueshirt Apple employees on the floor, plus more in the back, and they could barely keep up with demand. I'm still no fan of Steve Jobs, but I must say he knows exactly what the people want. He has to be laughing all the way to the bank.

Goofball cat is now rubbing on the iPad making it tough to type! Cynthia took the dogs to the vet today; they have teeth problems, Maggie has an ear infection, and they're both slightly overweight, though nothing to speak of really. What else...Holly is coming to visit from Minneapolis on Thursday, should be a good time. Mom and dad went to Lander Wyoming on Monday, get back tomorrow. I didn't know whether dad would want to travel in his condition, but it sounds like they're having a great time! Pretty cool that after all these years they still go to Wyoming to visit and see the sights.

The Terrys came over on Sunday and we had tamales for dinner from a local tamale maker (well in Colorado Springs). The tamales were good, but they already want to get together again and have tamales from Tamale Kitchen on the west side, for comparison. We got hot ones and mild ones, and the hot ones were REALLY hot! Maia and Daniel are growing like weeds of course, and Joann too! The Kia Sorrento they.picked up last winter is doing well.

Well it's getting late and we have to get up early tomorrows I better hit it. I've been playing Words with Friends with Chance and Jen, and Cynthia gave me a great idea: why not download WWF for the iPod Touch that Cynthia gave me for Xmas, and then she and I can play! An absolute genius, that one. In fact I better see if it'd my move!
